Featured Topic: The Culture of Agile Change -
Session 3: Requirements Change

Session #3 will focus on how Agile encourages a new way of viewing requirements.

90% of the time, when a project begins, you know exactly one thing: "When it's due." But without a detailed specification, how can you ensure that you'll deliver a useful product by the due date? Agile planning doesn't mean NO planning -- rather, it's a shift away from full up-front specification and toward an adaptive style that "unfolds" the needs of the product at the most appropriate moment.

In this session we will explore:

  • the relationship of Agile requirements to traditional use-cases
  • "velocity" and how to use it
  • story breakdown, sizing, and prioritization
  • how to handle "non-functional" requirements (the "-ilities")
  • performing agile analysis in a strategic context
  • adding project value early and eliminating waste by deferring complexity
  • techniques to detect and avoid "analysis paralysis"

Registration for this event is now open.

Lead-in Activity

As always, the first half-hour of the event is reserved for networking and food. Pizza and pop will be provided, so come hungry, grab a couple slices of pizza, and get to know the other attendees who are making Agile Leadership happen in Chicago.

Follow-up Activity: "OpenSpace"

Following the talk, attendees will take part in an OpenSpace discussion forum.  At least one topic will focus on the theme of other “impossible” situations for Agile, but attendees are free to propose any topic for discussion.  An OpenSpace session is a high-energy experience:  more structured than chit-chat, less rigid than following an agenda.  If you’ve never participated in an OpenSpace event, be prepared to be surprised!  For more about OpenSpace, see the original definition at AgileOpen.net.
