Featured Topic:

Agilists repeatedly encounter initial resistance to Agile at the management level and above: “It can't be that simple for the rest of the organization. We’ll need to do some process design first.” It CAN be "that simple," but it’s very hard to maintain the necessary focus to KEEP it simple. By shifting away from cause/effect models to feedback-loop models, you can leverage the Scrum framework to create the right process for your organization. This will be a quick introduction to using the Scrum product-development framework as a process-development framework, setting up an “Agile Transition Team” within your company, and "the language of links and loops” for continuous process improvement.

Lead-in Activity:

As always, the first half-hour of the event is reserved for networking and food. Pizza and pop will be provided, so come hungry, grab a couple slices of pizza, and get to know the other attendees who are making Agile Leadership happen in Chicago.

Follow-up Activity: "OpenSpace"

Following the talk, attendees will take part in an OpenSpace discussion An OpenSpace Session in progressforum.  At least one topic will expand on the Featured Topic presentation, but attendees are free to propose any topic for discussion.  An OpenSpace session is a high-energy experience:  more structured than chit-chat, less rigid than following an agenda.

If you’ve never participated in an OpenSpace event, be prepared to be surprised!  For more about OpenSpace, see the original definition at AgileOpen.net.

About the Speaker:

Derek W. Wade likes to use Agile to help improve the way people work together. He has been bridging the gaps between ideas and execution, and between individuals and teams, across a broad range of industries such as Aerospace, Internet Commerce, Digital Mapping, Loan Financing, Employment Testing, and Video Games. Derek holds CSM/CSP certification from the ScrumAlliance, and Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor certificates from the Federal Aviation Administration. These last have more relevance in the Agile world than he expected.
