Featured Topic: "Agile for Embedded Software? Impossible!"

Proponents of "waterfall" processes have objected that Agile methodologies are suitable for only a narrow range of development scenarios.  While Agile has been proven for green-field, small-team, and I.T. development, using Agile in areas like Distributed Development, Interactive Design, or Embedded Software are seen as risky if not impossible.  James Grenning will explain how Agile methods "do the impossible" and deliver Embedded solutions in an Agile way.

About the speaker...

James Grenning trains, coaches, and consults worldwide (and in Chicago). He has more than thirty years of software development experience, both technical and managerial.  As his professional roots are in embedded software, he is leading the way to introduce Agile development practices to the embedded world. James was one of the original extreme programming coaches and trainers. He is one of the authors of CppUTest, a unit test harness for C and C++. James contributed Planning Poker to the Agile management practices. He is one of the 17 visionaries who drafted the Manifesto for Agile Software Development in February 2001.  Mr. Grenning has written articles for IEEE and has speaks at Embedded Systems Conferences and various Agile Conferences. He is working on a book on TDD for Embedded C. He is also one of the principal authors of the Manifesto for Agile Software Development.  Find out more at his website (www.renaissancesoftware.net).

Follow-up Activity: "OpenSpace"

Following the talk, attendees will take part in an OpenSpace discussion forum.  At least one topic will focus on the theme of other “impossible” situations for Agile, but attendees are free to propose any topic for discussion.  An OpenSpace session is a high-energy experience:  more structured than chit-chat, less rigid than following an agenda.  If you’ve never participated in an OpenSpace event, be prepared to be surprised!  For more about OpenSpace, see the original definition at AgileOpen.net.
